Burnt Hills

Burnt Hills is an unincorporated hamlet in the town of Ballston, characterized by suburban residential development that began in the postwar era and continued through the 1980s. The housing stock runs from 1950s ranches and split-levels to colonials built when the school district's reputation drew families from Albany and Schenectady. These mid-century homes are at an interesting renovation moment: the original kitchens are tired, the bones are good, and the homeowners often have a strong sense of what they want. Ranch homes in particular offer interesting kitchen possibilities — single-story layouts where the kitchen is adjacent to the living space and relatively easy to open. We have completed a number of projects in Burnt Hills that involved removing the original kitchen peninsula and replacing it with a full island.
